Some dude wrote this big long paragraph about why he thinks we're voting for the wrong picture because it's obvious that even though the other picture isn't as good it's a better tank so it should win the picture contest.

Yeah he completely misunderstood. I think 5 is my favorite. Partially because it is an awesome tank but mostly because of the unique angle and how well it meets the brief

I read this four times saying "but there's no angel in the picture!" its a cool shot, but too blue for me.

again, attention to detail should come off my resume.

It's interesting because my worst 3 submissions ever were accepted and voted on but what I feel were some of the best pictures I've ever taken weren't put in for votes. I'm a little bitter about that.

And another thing I'm a little upset about - it seemed like people complained about Frank's win for the WYSIWYG but I'm pretty sure his was the most accurate picture. No question about what you were getting if you received a chunk of that.

I forget. There were a couple of comments made (I think on the following month's POTM) about this shouldn't be a popularity contest. Maybe I misread the comments but I felt like it was a jab at you winning maybe. Maybe not. I just didn't like the implications.

@Slocke I can help get this taken care of. Can you shoot me a PM? We never want this to be an issue at all. Maroun is a great guy, but he is VERY busy and may have missed it somehow. However, we'd never want to miss anyone getting their prize. I'm sorry that happened.

On this question, Maroun (and all of our mod team) are volunteers, so we absolutely allow them to participate in contests. Maroun is an avid photographer, which is why we love having his expertise in helping us run the contest. However, you can be sure that votes are tallied fairly. In fact, one of the reasons I routinely send out an alert like the one that went out today is to be sure that the whole community gets involved in voting so it doesn't turn into an "insider" contest where only certain people are voting. You can't ever fully stop people from voting for their friends (and we wouldn't want to do that anyway...the goal in our contests is to help build community and goodwill), but we try to be as fair as possible.

Man, I hope not. We often see those "popularity contest" complaints in any voting contest in a community. We do our best to be sure that isn't the case. However, I can say Frank's picture was awesome, and no one should be complaining about votes it received. Still, some people's children weren't raised with good manners...ya know?
