I'm not sure... Adding a base would neutralize the acidity but would it also neutralize the benefit of dosing vinegar? Adding air can raise the pH to normalize water with a low pH. I wonder what aerating vinegar would do.

The benefit of the vinegar is carbon. If the acidity of vinegar is concerning to PH you can dose sugar instead. 2 tablespoons to a quart of water.

like if I add a bit of 2-part alk to the vinegar to neutralize it will I still get the benefit of the carbon? guess I should ask on the chemistry page...

I would think that the carbon would work the same if you add just enough kalk or even RODI to neutralize it. After all, dropping it straight in will yield the same results. Our tanks are still quite alkaline so any chemical reactions should essentially be the same with a little kalkwasser thrown in as without. In fact there are people who actually mix it in their kalk reservoirs and drip it.

I should do Mollies... I have a spare 30 sphere for my daughter. When her room is clean enough I can set that up, move her Convicts over, and set up the 20 as a Molly tank and slowly bring it to saltwater levels. Then it can be my hospital/QT once they're switched over...

Here’s some more good news on this Friday night. My purple digi is more purple than I thought. I’ve turned off the halides. This is under a single actinic T5 that needs to be replaced soon but here it is.

As you can see I have loads of cyano still but it’s better than it was at its worst believe it or not.

Here’s the green digi. Despite the accidental “fragging” it looks almost as good as it did at the store. Tons of polyp extension though not overly so.

You can see new growth tips forming even where the “frags” broke off.
