Question… I’ve been thinking about getting an ATO put together. For a total system volume of 285 gallons, (or about 250 gallons of actual water volume after accounting for rock) how large of a reservoir should I go with?

its really about surface area of water exposed to the air and amount of agitation, and ambient humidity that determines evaporation.
I went through 5 gallons a day sometimes till I put glass over my DT.

Also depends how often you want to/can top it off. I go through 4-5 gal/week in my 4', 55g. I use a regular 5 gal bucket for my reservoir and switch it to a blue 16g container when I'm going to be away from the tank for 1-2 weeks.
