Silly question.
Do plates make babies by splitting? Sorry for the @tbrpicture but I am heading out the door.. that little nub to the left is completely detached. Should I be worried? Fighting low nutrients since Pu's gone. Need more fish.

Yes and no. They kind of spit out a baby from underneath them. The baby has its own skeletal structure, as they cannot split the skeleton. This skeleton has a very small amount of flesh on it. Then the flesh from the main one is transferred to that little disk to build it up some and then that slowly tears off. Kind of splitting and kind of not lol.

Little info. If a plate dies, do not trash it for at least 2 months. about 50% of the time, new babies will pop out from underneath it. It is a lot ditch effort by the coral to reproduce. They bud little ones out the pores of the skeleton using the last bit of "energy" they have and then it takes about 2 months for them to grow and move out from under it.

I like the Mimic personally.

Foxface yes, Yellow Coris Wrasse yes, maybe Lunare too, I'm always a yes for Blenny or Goby or both or a few of each, Longnose would be my preference if I went Hawkfish but Flame and Arc Eye look cool (I just wouldn't get either myself).

I asked my LFS to keep an eye out and order one for me. That was 6 or 7 months ago...

Not on the current list. Sadly just these the Atlantic blue and sail fin but I don't care for either of those.

Wheres this yellow mimic tang hiding? I honestly think the adult phase is better looking than the powder browns.

I mean, if you go powder...
