I'd say it's a little early to make that call. I've had a lot of fish, mandarins included come in looking very skinny from a long period of travel.

With wild caught adults, not eating pellets immediately is almost guarantee. They have no idea what it is. Mysis and Brine are usually the first things they will take to.
Depends on her situation. Hopefully not as emaciated as mine was.
Which looked like this. Not my photo. Just the closest i could find.

mine didn't eat for the longest time in the frag tank got super emaciated and grey. I poured all my pod cultures in there and now he is starting to bounce back.

I know most of you here are experienced but for anyone that isnt and are looking at manadrins, a good sign is the hump at the back of the head. i believe its like a fat reserve but it does show that its been eating anyway. Similarly with copperbands they have rings above their eyes that become sunken when they are not eating

They are wild caught, my experience with the biota mandarins is when available they are tiny, about an inch in length and tend to become targets… not saying weak fish won’t, but so far nobody else in the tank has bothered them.

I loaded the tank with pods over the weekend, both tigs and apex, 2 bottles of each from reef nutrition, so with what I added and what was already visible in the tank there is plenty of food in there for them. I also restarted my pod cultures over the weekend so I can keep the pod population up for them

I usually end up bumping my pod population by doing nothing more than dosing phyto every day. Within four or five days they are crawling everywhere

I dose about 5-10 ml per day of phyto just enough to make the water go slightly cloudy…just before lights out.

So good news is both mandarins are cruising around pecking at the rocks and glass…still a little skinny but that’s to be expected

could only get the one… other one took off into the rocks
Probably in good health still. Not like the nightmares I encountered.
