Follow up to the feeder convo: I had my husband 3d print me a little feeder ring when I was using an ehiem. It fed into the ring (which had some foam in it to help float) and stayed there until either A the fish ate it from the surface, or B it saturated enough to start dropping into the water column. Was a pretty good solution until the urchin started taking and wearing it 
Plank works great, in the next build I'll be placing it in a shadier area though, I had to pull and clean the pump regularly from algae growth because it was in prime view of the lights. With the peninsula, it'll be shadier at both ends so I'll hopefully not have as much issue with that.
