True. Every time I go cheap on something, I alway regret it.
The wire does bother me per se but it would be better without them.
Hmmmm.
gyres seem to be always breaking down from what I read on R2R

I was initially worried about not being able to angle the head to get a good flow pattern, but with within minutes of using it I found the flow that the mp40s have is insanely good and a game changing powerhead for reefing. I was running 4 powerheads that I could angle prior to getting just one mp40 and I will never go back.

Yeah I’ve read that a lot.
Most likely due to operator error, the new design cuts down on the reassembly mishaps. I rarely clean mine with almost no issues, the small snails are what messes with mine. Also some great pumps for the correct application!

I appreciate your input. I already use the AI app for my lighting. The mobius app isn’t a huge deal for me.
The only concern I have regarding the Nero’s are people reporting that they suck in smaller fish.
And the idea of no cords in the tank is attractive. Just not sure if it’s $500 a piece attractive.
I have a Hector's Goby that does ok. They need the provided guard for sure though.

I have an mp10 because I have a 32 gallon biocube, but I really really love it. The app is easy - I love that you can program different settings for different times. I use reef crest during most of the day and put it on lagoon at night so I know my fish aren’t getting blasted around in the dark. Easy push of a button to put it on feed mode for 10 min - which slows it down to make it a bit easier for fish to grab the food.

They look nice, no cords in the tank and probably easy when you want to clean them. To each his own of course, but I'm not going to pay 450 euro's for one flow pump. I have a gyre and a Tunze and am perfectly happy with that. They do the job just fine!

I’ve got all the pumps you mentioned and I still think the vortech line is designed for the best overall experience.
  • Flow pattern is wide and open
  • Wetside unit is cheap enough that buying backup is feasible
  • The vortech driver comes with battery backup hookups built in — this sells me immediately
  • It’s quiet for the power it provides
  • Mobius app is actually fine. And they seem to keep improving it — the firmware is updated regularly
  • Customer service is awesome. You could even chat with someone directly in Mobius
  • No components of the system feel cheap at all. The wires, drivers, and the magnet. The magnet on these things are heavy duty…leads to my only complaint which is regarding the MP60 version—which has a MASSIVE magnet yet they still use the 3 tab locking system to hold the propeller, ceramic shaft, and magnet assembly together.

I wouldn't run anything but my ecotechs. I like not having the wires and the heat from the pump in the tank.
"Free" heat that you don't need to suplement with a heater.

Have all these programmable flows and whatever shown through actual studies to improve growth rates or keep fish alive more so than dumber pumps placed in the right location?

I would definitely prefer to have no wires in the tank but at least this time I did an in wall tank where the wall cutout was a couple of inches smaller than the glass so the wires can go up the sides and be hidden a bit more. Would still prefer no wires but I picked DC Tunze at 1/3rd the price.

Yes, they are great and cleaning is a breeze. Had gyres for about 5 years before and loved flow but cleaning was awful, disassembly sucks and parts wore out. So far they have been great and got new for $322 last Nov from BRS at their best sale on them.

Have a Nero as well and it seems nice too.
