Hey guys I’ve had this monti for a month now and I am realizing some polyps near the white edges have begun retracting. I’ve never had a problem with this so what could be the issue.
(This just started yesterday)
Parms
Salinity 1.026
Mag 1320
Calc 440
Alk 10

You can see the white spots around the top where there’s a small spike. The rest of the polyps are fine

Hard to tell with the blue light. White light pictures will let us get a better look.

With your Alk at 10 what is your Phos and Nit levels? A big swing in Phos in either direction could cause some bleaching at the edges.

Check for Monti eating nudi on
The undersides. But also, as everyone stated above.
I’m not too familiar with that pest and I’m getting mixed results online. Can you please post a pic of what to look for?

I had a pretty big alk swing (sorry forgot to mention my bad) about 3 weeks ago now but the monti didn’t really seem to care about it and looked completely fine. I’m currently still trying to bring my alk down to 8-9 range

sorry for using abbreviations, you can google montipora eating nudibranchs.

Though, of course instability is more likely.

Focus on alk which generally causes this as well as low calcium. Alk and ca work together and is best when both are balanced. Assure temp has not become elevated and salinity has not dropped.

I understand they were nudibranchs I just don’t know if they are like the ones that eat aiptasia

Corals can live thousands of years, 3 weeks is a blip on the timeline for corals. The alk spike 3 weeks ago is probably what is causing the bleaching your seeing now.

I also increased lighting. I’ve seen sps get crazy light so could that be the case too?
Also will it ever regenerate on the white spots?
