Hi,

So basically I had 50 Litres (13gal) of Natural Seawater delivered by mistake and have been told to keep hold of it.

So I am just wondering if it can be mixed with my own saltwater mix at a later date as I'm still going through the process of getting everything I need for my start up as well as researching.

I basically want to put the natural Seawater in my tank with a couple of jets and live rock and wondered if I can add my own mix to this or just empty when ready and start fresh.

Thanks

I do this today without issue, however my NSW source is stable based on tests the past year I have been pulling from Scripps in San Diego.

Key to tank success is stability (based on much reading on this forum), so you’ll need to make sure the mixing doesn’t move your params in the undesirable direction.

Yeah that's the worry I have about mixing it, I mean I could essentially just order more of the NSW and just run tests on what they sent me.

I basically enquired about some for a few weeks and they added me to the system for fortnightly top ups and accidentally sent out a top up straight away so rather than let it go to waste I'm wondering if it's a good idea to let my live rocks soak in it.

I just know that with my own salt mix I can control it better than NSW so I'm on the fence about what I would rather use

If this is a one off usage and you are concerned, the solution may be in dilution - (e.g., 10% water change = 8% mixed saltwater and 2% NSW). Numbers provided strictly to illustrate a point. I mix 50/50, at my own risk and no problems to-date.
