Mistakes that can be corrected

Hello reefers, let me introduce my self I am King Kong reefs, I recently wanted to try a few ways to clean my filtration learned a hard lesson in 1 of the ways, I decided to clean my system with TAP water very bad idea. Everything started to slowly lose its skin water perimeter was way off, so I lost my confidence that I can do this, started to sell off live stock that was still thriving. Been reefing for 17 years on and off now, almost gave up but then a few months passed things were still not good, during those months I did water changes once every 2-4 weeks things started to improve a little but the best you can do if you ever make a the mistakes I made is to not put the things you cleaned back but if you do it’s not the end of your reef, the pictures are the stages that my reef went threw. Dang man, that’s rough but good to know. Does your tap water have chlorine/did you dechlorinate it?

Yes it did and I did dechlorinate but now I don’t try anymore just RODI or distilled now, everything came back and is thriving very well thank you

Gotcha, I guess when I finally get around to corals I will avoid rinsing anything in tap water

You can clean in tap but rinse in rodi

First of beautiful tank. What does this mean though? I use tap all tne time to clean filter cup etc..

I use tap with a little white vinegar to clean many reef items. Rinse well and dry them and never noticed a problem. Are you dipping coral in tap water?
