I've read a bunch of conversations about wrasse's burying themselves in the sandbed and making a re-appearance days or weeks later. However, my yellow coris wrasse has been in my tank for nearly 9 months and like clockwork wakes up and goes to bed around the same time each day. All of a sudden yesterday and today he has not shown up. My tank has a lid, but I checked everywhere anyway, and there are no new tank mates. I was just watching him eat 2 days ago and he seemed perfectly normal. He is my favorite fish to watch, so I'm missing my buddy. I'm just hoping some of you more experienced wrasse owners out there have experienced a wrasse or 2 disappear for a few days then come back like nothing was wrong. I know where he sleeps in the sand bed every day too, but I'm not going to try to disturb him.

Have you checked behind the tank? Unfortunately they often end up on the floor.

I had a Halichoeres disappear for 3 weeks into the sand and then just pop out like nothing happened.

In my experience, when a fish changes its routine its usually not good. I would poke around in the sand where you think he is, personally.

I love my coris wrasse I hope yours is OK. How often do you remove the lid? My starry blennie is a tile surfer. I gotta be sure to keep an eye on him any time I am cleaning the tank if he gets spooked pew on the tile he goes. I have found him on the floor 3 times now. Luckily not at the reef jerky phase. Hopeful your pal is OK.

I have checked all around the tank and even inside the cabinet (in case he went behind then in through the back). No signs of him. I have a tight fitting plexiglass lid that makes me think it isn't possible. The lid has not been removed between I saw him last and the time he disappeared. Just hoping some of you experienced owners will say something like "oh yea, happens all the time!" lol. Well today is day 3 and no signs yet.

have you looked on the overflow box and the sump. he might of went for a ride into the sump.
It is impossible for him to fit in the overflow. It is just a series of tiny slits about 1/8" wide. Day 4 still no sign of him :(

I found out that one of my anemone's had split and one half parked itself in a dark area just getting pummeled by a power head. It looked horrible and like it was decomposing. I removed it right away. I wonder if this stressed my wrasse and caused it to hide, and I had 2 turbo snails randomly having a hard time clinging to the glass. I immediately added more carbon to the tank. I wonder if the anemone was beginning to nuke my tank. Tomorrow i'm going to do a water change. Hope the wrasse comes out.
