Guys
I put a 2” half black mimic tang in to join my 15 other fish on Monday

In the store he looked perfect but on Tuesday I noticed he was covered in white spots .
I don’t know if this is disease or just stress spots as I’ve had it before with new tangs and heavy feeding , hands out tank and it goes in a week.

But, having never experienced velvet I’m worried it could be that , although he’s still alive today and feeding and I think velvet would have killed him by now

I’ll try and get some shots soon

How are you testing water?
Can you provide a you tube version video of at least 20 seconds for best assessment?

Sorry - the video isn’t clear enough to see the spots. Can you get a clear photo?

You can rule out ALL water quality issues because the corals and other fish have no issues.

Velvet doesn’t cause distinct spots, first symptom is rapid breathing, followed by not eating and swimming in water currents. At the end, the fish will have a sort of “dusted” look; glassy eyes and cloudy skin.

Ich causes many white pinhead spots that come and go and change location at first, but then increasing in numbers. Fish will continue to act fairly normal until later on in the infection.

Larger white spots can have multiple causes.
