Size limitations. How big does this guy get? This pico is 1.1g peninsula

I am somewhat experienced with mantis, I bought and raised a 2” peacock to full grown and had him as a pet in a species tank for 5 years.

I do miss having a mantis, their intelligence fascinates me. And this micro mantis might be a good fit for my acrylic pico. I just don’t know much about this particular species and will have to read up.

Space wise n. Wennerae could be fine in 1.1, I’d be more concerned about the glass thickness, tighter space + smaller tank means more likely breaks.

They’ve broken out of similar sized containers I’ve had submerged in larger tanks. I would never house one in a pico that didn’t at least have acrylic laying on the bottom.

No that is way too tiny. But a few sexy shrimp and some snails and hermits would be happy in a pico like that.

The entire tank is acrylic

Been there, never again. The sexy shrimp were rehomed to my main tanks sump.
I have removed the large pale torch and replaced with a smaller gold torch, and was considering moving the gold back to my 75 anyway

Here are pics with a frag shelf that is exactly 3” long. The tank is 1/4” acrylic on all sides. I could smash up some spew rock to make rubble and he can make a cave under the tonga branch structure

Since the mantis is in a Tupperware in a sump and nobody has stepped up to give it a home, if this tank is suitable, I would volunteer to take him and move him in

N. Wennerae will be fine in that tank size. Odontodactylus is the main group you want to upsize as much as possible for numerous reasons, everything else as long as they have the space to make their cavity/deep enough sand for a sand burrow will be fine.

I’m currently housing a G. Ternatensis in a 2 gal, which is the largest gonodacylid.

just be prepared to lose at least 1 coral if it decides to bore a hole in one. Once it makes a cavity it should remain there and be done. If you can, would recommend moving any coral that’s precious to you for the first week and after the mantis is comfortable reintroducing them.

Here a random pic I took of him about a week after taking him to the store. He’s gonna be sold off at Bermuda aquatics in Ventura. Glad he’s gonna find a good home. Instead of in a Tupperware container hiding under a rock in my sump.
