has anyone ever heard of or seen a mandarin that has/had fin rot?

im afraid my male psych. mandarin might have fin rot. ive never had any experience with this, so im not exactly sure.

my parameters are excellent and .01 phos , 0-2 nitrate. all others in check.

it started on the lower fins, and i all i noticed was that for quite a while it looked like they had gotten whitish/or sort of loss of color in some areas. although now there is still color loss but sections of fin missing. also its dorsal fin looks tatered.

if it does have fin rot is it treatable ? will its fins regrow where they are now missing ?

hoping someone else may have some info on this.

(sorry i cant get any pics as my camera is out of town for two weeks :( )

Don't you have a Mystery wrasse in there?
I would suspect him first before any type of disease or anything. They can be super territorial and pretty good tank bullies.
Mine is...

Other than that I haven't ever heard of fin rot in a saltwater tank with good parameters.

okay. well i am surprised i havent seen any agression in my tank from my mystery lineatus or firefish. the only thing i have ever noticed is that my mccoskers does flash my firefish, and sort of bully it at feeding time. but nothing major. my mystery is actually the most timid fish in my tank.

its really weird, i cant figure out whats going on.

My Mystery is really timid too, until he goes on a rampage. I always am checking my tank out, and have only seen him do it 3-4 times, but when he does he goes full bore.
Other than guessing he might be nipping at him to let him know to take a hike I'm not really sure what it could be.
A picture would REALLY help

Their skin is pretty sensitive, with its lack of "scales". So my only other guess would be to check your Alk or something like that.

I would do a 5-10min freshwater dip if you are worried about it, and it's easy to catch.
That seems to do the trick for me whenever I am in doubt. All my new fish get one too before QT
