Macro Algae & Corals 25 Gallon Peninsula

Not much news to share, still waiting for a few of the corals I purchased at the frag swap to open up.

The zoas seem very happy. I believe these are Goblins on Fire as well as the Snitches varieties. Each frag was $15, so I’m pleased with the purchase.

Also picked up a pavona, although I’m not sure of the species name.

Grabbed a green hammer to complement the rose gold hammer. The hammer is almost iridescent in person. Next to the rose gold, the visual effect is akin to oxidized copper.

And finally we have the toadstool leather. I am still waiting for this guy to open back up. After it started to open, I pulled the frag out to clip off the bottom plug. This frag must be made of unobtanium; for the life of me, I could not break off the plug. Consequently, the toadstool was not happy after being out of the water and handled so much. Hopefully its tentacles come out again soon!

The gorgonian next to it sure looks happy, though.

Once this long-polyp leather grows in, there’s going to be beautiful flow stretching out to the front of the tank. Cannot wait to see how this looks a few months down the road!

Oh my goodness, we now have three shrimp in the tank with eggs. Goodness gracious. I had hoped at least one shrimp would spawn before the fish arrive, but sadly, that doesn’t seem like it will happen.

Our first order of fish from Dr Reef’s quarantined fish arrive on Friday morning. In this order, we have two mocha clown fish, one yellow watchman goby, and a candy cane pistol shrimp. Needless to say, with the clowns running around the shrimp spawn will not fare well.

I will miss feeding this invert only tank. Watching the shrimp jump and flip around is a real treat. I hope they keep this confidence once the fish are introduced, but we’ll see. The journey goes on!

Speaking of activity, Nessy showed herself for the first time in about 10 days. Just as I start to worry about this little Nassarius snail, she pops her trunk out to wave hello.

We have fish! I had the lights off in the tank all day to help them acclimate. Will post more photos over the weekend!

Yellow Watchman Goby has decided to embrace the plant life.

I was worried that we might never see the candy strip pistol shrimp after adding it to the tank—it’s just a tiny little thing—but he’s decided to make his tunnel in the front of the tank! The shrimp may yet move, but it’s cool to see it tunneling for now.

Sounds like it’s pretty normal for fish not to eat after being added to a new tank? I’ve tried feeding frozen brine, Nero pellets, and Rod’s Frozen at different times throughout the day. The shrimp are happy to munch away, but the clowns and YWG don’t show any interest.

Wow. Absolutely love it! Question how do you like the Prime 16HD Diffuser? Is there a noticeable difference visually? Love all your macro algae need to get some for my tank!

My work desk is directly next to the tank, and the diffuser is a god send. It directs the light straight down so that it doesn’t throw light into my eyes.

Hey all, I’m getting a little concerned. I added the clowns to the tank on Friday, and since then they have not eaten consistently. I’ve tried brine shrimp, Rod’s frozen omnivore blend, and Nyos wild goji pellet food. Nothing seems to work, and aside from a few nibbles here and there, they haven’t eaten anything.

Is this pretty standard behavior out of new clowns? At what point should I be worried? Any advice @vetteguy53081 or @Jay Hemdal?

Generally not. Eating a little something however helps

Starting with acclimation, how did you acclimate and for how long?
Did you see or ask to see them eat at the store?
How is breathing- normal or labored?
What is current salinity and ammonia levels?
Any pics of fish under white lighting?

Clowns were purchased directly from Dr. Reef’s quarantined fish. Both clowns went through his complete quarantine process. Received fish via mail this past Friday. Per his acclimation instructions, I floated for 30 mins and then did multiple water exchanges with tank water.

Breathing appears normal, but I guess I don’t know what normal clown fish breathing looks like…

Phosphate quite high (.04-.06)
Although fish were quarantined, it reduces chances of disease but not always disqualifies chance not to say disease is in effect
You for sure want to match acclimation salinity with that of tank and with recommendation of water exchanges is concerning as you drive off the carbon dioxide faster than you are diluting the ammonia. That raises the pH of the water from the bag which in turn makes the residual ammonia toxic to the fish. It does not appear they are in any distress, so keep an eye on them.
What are you using to test ammonia Level ?
