What are some more forgiving sps?
So you've got the standard "beginners" of Monti, Stylophora, Digitata that are all fairly easy. You've got Pocilopora, Birdsnests, and Slimers are easyish. Anacropora are getting towards the more "stick" side of the spectrum. Moving into Acroporas I've always been told the hairier they are, the easier they are as long as your tank is stable and your parameters will support them.

mine are at .03 right now, alk is low, but i forget to dose at time, but got doser coming this week
High alk and low phosphates were keeping me from being successful at SPS. Now I have good alk and good phosphates. I try to run about 8.6 alk and 0.08 to 0.15 on phosphates just because I've bottomed out and lost SPS and had cyano outbreaks from it. Alk was at 10.8 and phosphates were 0.02 according to Hanna and I lost 4 Acros almost overnight.

It took almost 6 months and heavy feeding and dosing phosphates (20 ml per day) to get my phosphates up where they are. I was at 0.25, let it sit for 4 days and was at 0.05. I started dosing 5 ml (0.05 in my tank) daily with an extra 5-10 ml each week for good measure. I haven't seen a test over 0.1 in two months because I added more sticks and hard corals that seem to be eating it up!

Where is should your protein skimmer water line be? Im trying to get a good skim but it keeps fluctuating quite a bit.
What skimmer? Each manufacturer is a little different. Also, the amount of air you run and how much water flow you have can adjust that.
