I recently tried live aquaria's frozen branded mysis shrimp and having opened 2 of the 1lb flat packs noticed that most of the shrimp seem to be mushed up and a ton of whatever they use to keep it "gel" like. ( for lack of a better phrase.)
I usually buy Hykari frozen mysis but decided to give the live aquaria a try.
I probably won't be buying any more from them.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this too.

Mods, please don't move this to vendor feedback.
I'm asking other reefers for their experiences and opinions.

I buy Hikari and Ocean nutrition brand. Often mushy means it melted and refroze, however if no funny smell, it may be good. I would call/email manufacturer on package and see what they say

It seems fresh, no bad smell. It's just more of a mush than mysis shrimp that you get from Hykari.

I have used both and have not had this issue.
You used the Live Aquaria signature brand of frozen mysis? Was it the 16oz. flat pack?

What I am seeing is almost zero whole mysis shrimp. More of a broken mush of them. Plus the gel ( whatever the thickening agent used, agar? ) was way over used.
I've opened 2 packs and it's consistent.

I always thaw and drain the shrimp in Rodi water before feeding and don’t see a difference between hikari and the live aquaria brand. I’ve bought both the blister packs and the 16 oz flat pack.

As a follow up, I did send LA a email last week. I have not heard back from them.

Any further info on the Live Aquaria frozen mysis, did LA respond? I just noticed they have most of their Live Aquaria branded 16 oz. flat packs (including mysis) on sale for $5.99 each. Could be they discovered the problem described by mfinn and are trying to unload it.

I bought tons of it since it is so cheap. Haven’t had any issues. I wonder if OP’s batch had freeze/thawed a couple of times. The batches I’ve gotten have been fine.

hey what's up remember me and the yellow chromis and how it he?
Hi! Yes !

He’s doing great, completely calmed down. Peaceful with everyone. Wasn’t always this way. He recentlessly attacked my new tomini but thankfully it was only a few days. They all coexist nicely now.

Always active. Very difficult to get a clear photo

I have noticed it is mostly pieces....but it seems fine. I'm on pack 2...I think I have 3 more. I won't buy the flatpacks again just because I feel like it is so hard to portion out equally.

I did eventually hear back to them about the condition of the mysis.
They said they blend it to make it so smaller fish can eat it too.
Didn't comment on the amount of the binder they used.
As far as the size of the pieces, I've never had any issues with the frozen Hikari brand being too big for even the smallest of fish.
Frozen mysis seems to be had to find at different times of the year lately.
I'll just have to stock up on Hikari when I can.
