However my opinion happens to be the truth which gives it that extra umph... My statements are backed by the only trophy that matters. The Stanley Cup. How many times are Malkin and Crosby's names on the cup? Oh yeah....ZERO. This "drunk" person celebrated a Stanley Cup last year while the little Penguins were nursing their wounds. Oh and polishing their trophys for individual achievements. 16 points between Malkin and Datsyuk and you think that's worth over $2 million? I will take the player that can play in all situations and win cups thanks.

"Considering both of these players are better than Crosby"
"Malkin is an awsome player but he certainly isn't worth $2.2 million more than Datsyuk."

Again, kinda like arguing with a drunk person at the bar. When he starts off with a premise like up is down and down is up, there is no point to argue. You just shake your head and tell him to have another beer and sleep it off.

Hell Malkin won the scoring title this year. If he won the Hart trophy also, you would still sit here and say they where worlds apart.

"Considering both of these players are better than Crosby and playing for less money, I am not sure it's all just my opinion."

This is my point. You make this statement like it's fact. This is where I don't agree. So we will just go round and round. I understand you see things through glasses that are tinted red.....

Stanley Cup indicates the best team in hockey not the best player. All it means is that he played on the best team in hockey last year. The 2 million more is not just about the 16 points it's about the life of the contract. That remains to be seen. You would also make a great politician. Just because you repeat the same thing over and over does not make it the truth. Go have another beer on me and take your rose colored glasses off..

In my lifetime of playing and watching hockey I have learned to appreciate the players who know how to win. There is an intangible that players who win cups have. Both Zetterberg and Datsyuk have proven that they have it. Crosby and Malkin have yet to prove anything other than individual stats. You don't get a parade for stats. We may have a crappy city but we have alot of parades. Seriuosly though I do think Malkin is a great player. Crosby is still a whiner. I predict Ovechkin will have him throwing tantrums by game 3. On another note....I traveled to Pittsburg to see the Wings play the Pens back in 2002. It was when Super Mario made his comeback. Outside of a little friendly sports fan ribbing we were treated incredibly well. I enjoyed the city alot and your football team is a little bit better than ours.

I think if anyone will bring Crosby to tantrums it will be Varlamov. That was an incredible save he had on Sid. It seems that if Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin play up to par then the deciding factor in this series will be the goalies. Sorry I just don't see it. My whole arguement here is that Datsyuk IS NOT on another level that you feel he is. Now you are talking about intangibles which of course you cannot measure or see, but you can because of your "lifetime of playing and watching hockey" You seem to be the only one that sees that and I'm sure a ton of other Detroit fans. Talk about tone, that smacked of arrogance. Like you were saying " I have played hockey so I can see things you can't". If you had that ability, you would be coaching in the NHL or writing this analysis as an editor for Hockey News. I see in Sid a player that gives 100% all the time and is very unselfish. Like I said before, he is only getting started and is at the same level where Datsyuk is at the pinnacle of his game.

Mario, now your bringing back memories. Those were the good old days with Lemieux and jagr.

"your football team is a little bit better than ours." You are funny if nothing else...

I have to differ with you there. Datsyuk hasn't peaked and only keeps getting better. Personally I have never seen a player anything like him. As far as me being the only one...Well just check out the Sports Illustrated article from April proclaiming him to be the best all aroun forward in the NHL. The Gary Bettman NHL has put all of their eggs in the Crosby basket. He is a young good looking Canadien kid who can play. Unfortunately he isn't as good as Malkin, Ovechkin, or Datsyuk. Just today I saw an ad promoting the Pittsburg/Washington game 2. Ovechkin vs Crosby. I am sure that makes Malkin happy being that he is much better that Crosby. Understandably as a Pens fan you want to believe the hype but it's just marketing and that's all it is. I must admit that alot of fans in original 6 towns including myself tend to be a bit purist. I would even say we in Detroit can be a bit arrogant about hockey. I guess it comes from winning cup after cup with the only modern dynasty in hockey. However the real experts are those in the Wing's scouting staff who found gems like Datsyuk at 171st overall in the draft, Zetterberg at 225th, and Nick Lidstrom 53rd. The Wings won the cup last year with a single 1st round pick on the team and they have more young players such as Ville Leino and Darren Helm coming up. Scotty Bowman said that Pavel Datsyuk is the best overall hockey player he has ever seen outside of Mario and Nick Lidstrom. (He went on to say that Mario was the greatest ever). But what does Scotty know?

Spoken like a true "armchair quarterback" You need to realize that the Detroit Red Wings won the Cup, not you. Them winning the cup doesn't make you any more of a hockey expert. I hear these type of fans being from Pittsburgh all to often with the Steelers. I actually like the Detroit Red Wings a lot. I have always cheered for them when they weren't playing the Pens. I loved watching Yzerman and Federov play. To say things like "Unfortunately he isn't as good as Malkin, Ovechkin, or Datsyuk." or "I am sure that makes Malkin happy being that he is much better that Crosby." is just nonsense. Hell look at the playoff stats up through through these games. Tell me who is producing. Malkin 10,Crosby 9, Ovechkin 8 and Datsyuk......uh 3. I know, I know, it's the intangibles. Or wait, maybe Sid really isn't doing anything in the playoffs and it's smoke and mirrors and marketing hype..

Good ole days with Lemieux, Jagr, Barrasso, Stevens, Samulssens, etc. I was going to make the points argument, but I can see you already made it for me. Then there is the regular season stats to go on. The media can hype a player to a point, but the fact is that they choose Sidney Crosby for a reason, and it's not that he's super attractive or Canadian, it's because he's good. He's really good, and he's really young. There are other intangibles too, like players making the play of their lives against Crosby or any other player that tend to diminish stats, but don't take anything from the players themselves. This is an argument that can go on and on, but ultimately, will not be answered. (Keep in mind also that all stats lie. Olvechkin has played 8 games to Sid and Malkin's 7)

Datsyuk has played 6. Another huge factor is ice time. The Wings are one of the most balanced teams in the NHL. I recently saw comparisons between the ice time of the Wing's to players vs the other top players around the league. They showed these stats during a game and I couldn't find them online but the Wing's stars Franzen, Hossa, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Lidstrom all play fewer minutes than their counterparts around the league. If a player like Datsyuk is playing 17-19 minutes and a player like Malkin is playing 22-25 minutes then Malkin is likely to have more points even if his play is equal or inferior.

Playoffs:

Ovechkin: 9 GP 11/pts
Crosby: 8 GP 12/pts
Malkin: 8 GP 11/pts
Datsyuk: 6 GP 3/pts

Even if you take it out to 9 games for Datsyuk for the playoffs, he is still at maybe 9 pts. I thought the great players should step up their game for the playoffs and not let the rest of the team carry them. I mean if he is a great as you say.

lol - Boy do some people take this fan thing to the extreme - you would think their 5yr old or kid or whatever was on the team and they were playing for $1mil bucks!
Not like it defines us as people if they win or lose! ......just sayin' ;)

Nice to see the enthusiasm though...

GOOD GAME too!

Now I know that the PENS is penguins!!!!!!
