Glad to see someone not keep the generic and way over saturated Percs / Ocellaris (and don’t get me started on the designer strains). Personally, I’m a much bigger fan of A. Sandaracinos and my favorite Clowns are A. Latezonatus.

There’s a lot of species IMO more unique and cooler than the Percula complex.

Considering the massive amount of inbreeding among the Occys / Perculas, I think people should only buy these 2 from breeders that breed using wild broodstock or CB broodstock with a traceable wild lineage and no intent on producing any of the designers.

They get too big, too fast. I don't think many people realize how big these actually can get. Imo there are better looking tangs that are better at algae control too.

While I've kept a hippo (it passed unfortunately), I'm not partial to them. Yes, they are a nice looking fish, but I actually prefern other tangs much better such as Yellow, Bristletooth and Tomini. My likes are pretty basic.

I had a hippo tang in a 55 gallon for almost 10 year in the 80s. Back then a 55 was the gold standard but I moved so gave it back to the LFS. Later kept one in a 92 and finally a 300 gallon and never saw a behavior difference. Imo, it’s the most beautiful and behaved fish…the perfect saltwater fish! Have a 30 gallon now which is obviously too small, so unfortunately my days of hippo tangs are over.

. Known for their iconic blue and black color combo with bright yellow accents (and maybe aggression?), these guys can be found in tanks

Mine does not have the iconic colors, and it doesn’t cause any issues with my other fish.

As far as I know it’s not rated.

I just lost mine which was a bad loss. She was super enjoyable and used to pick up the hermit crabs bring them to the surface and drop them all over. Tons of personality, beautiful colors, and active, what’s not to love?

I added a nice fat 4 inch blue hippo a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful blue! It's still settling in, demonstrating that annoying back and forth, up and down, swimming pattern most of the day, but it is venturing out into the reef a bit more and comes over to join the rest of the fish when the tank is fed. It is eating all types of food voraciously! If the back and forth, up and down swimming doesn't subside soon, I'm going to have to start self medicating cause it drives me a bit, nuts!

Mine was a Rescue from a smaller aquarium, paid $100 for it. I said I’d never get another one, due to them being Ick Magnets. Hard to pass up a fully conditioned and quarantined Blue Tag. It’s in a 120 Reef tank, with the rock in the middle, so fish can swim around and through the rock and corals.

I like them but i dont consider my 1500 liter tank large enough to keep one. I prefer smaller and less adhd tangs
