Is this supposed to happen when you frag corals?

So I pulled some of my hammer corals to trim off dead branches. And when I did, the tool didn't make a clean cut, but instead, it made a partial cut and then broke off.

Generally speaking, the corals look healthy, but it also seems that it was very brittle. Even when handling the Hammer, there were instances where it just broke.

This is the first time I've ever fragged a coral. Is this normal?

Euphyllia branches can often be brittle. I found that a coral saw cuts them easier/cleaner (as opposed to bone cutters) due to that exact reason.
