Trouble is, since I am using a salifert and not a digital test like a hanna, if it was less than I believe 0.3dkh, I wouldn't notice

Does the salifert have a lower resolution test mode?
I would just invest in the Hannah Alk tester. You're probably gonna end up buying one anyways... at some point. Even if you got a Trident, it's still a somewhat needed tool in your arsenal because I find the Trident calibration fluid is always off on ALK. Hannah Nitrate and Phosphate are good to have as well. Makes testing easier, which makes it more likely that you will actually do it more often.
