Is it normal for a clam to gape after a freshwater dip?

How long have you had them? How much light are they getting, especially the maxima?
I've had all three for about 2 months. They were receiving a lot of light in the display tank. Now that they're in the sump they're getting significantly less other than a grow light.

Have you seen much growth on them in the 2 months? That maxima doesn't look it's put on much shell in that time. Did they have nice white new growth when you received them? Could be it wasn't that healthy originally. If it's been alive for a couple months though it was probably in decent health when you got it.

I wouldn't leave them in the sump long if they are getting just a grow light.. Would be helpful if you could describe your tank lighting and par levels and where the clams were placed. A lot of light is subjective. Maxima get blasted by tropical sun all day long near the top of the reef.

I thought they were growing but maybe not. I ordered two maximas but one died in transit when I reviewed them. Maybe that should have been my first warning
Also, the derasa seems to be happier in the sump than he was in the tank lol

I just use the daylight LED flood light. You can see the reflection of it in this picture L lower corner
