Hello R2R,
After 15 years of being out of the hobby, I am jumping back into reefkeeping with a 250G system build. I previously had a 180 gallon reef and worked for a local saltwater fish store doing retail and client aquarium maintenance. A lot has changed since those days – beyond all the new equipment options, I now have a wife, munchkins, and a busy professional life. Each will factor into this build. . . if I want to stay married ; )
The tank will be a 210 gallon peninsula style mixed reef tank (68L x 30W x 24H) built by Planet Aquarium with Starphire glass on the 3 show sides and a 16” Synergy Reef Shadow Overflow.
To give you a flavor of what’s in store for this thread, I am creating this build thread to chronicle the aquarium progress, help me document what is working/not, and perhaps give someone else some ideas for their reef builds (as I have a learned a lot from reading other’s people stories here on R2R). I appreciate good equipment, good photography, and a good plan, so I hope this thread features a bit of each. I am also the ‘world’s okay-est woodworker,’ so I plan to build my own canopy, stand wrapper, and perhaps acrylic sump and sump accessories. If any of the above interest you, I hope you tag along.
