Hey all, this seems like the friendliest place to post my build thread so here goes. It's been a few years since I've had a tank and I just moved and got a new job and figured it was a good time to get back into it! I'm going to try and keep things pretty small and budget friendly for now.

I apologize in advance for my crappy iphone pictures. I do own a big girl camera and will eventually figure out how to use it...

Equipment:

AJ-60 24 Gallon all in one $120

25 (ish) pounds live rock

20 (ish) pounds live sand

(The sand and rock came from an unlucky craigslister who had a tank leak) $40

Wellpar 165 watt dimmable timer control led reef light $81

Rio 180 return $12

Jebao RW4 wavemaker $50

Eheim 100 watt heater $25

phosban, carbon, filter sponge, filter floss $25

Ammonia alert badge $7

digital thermometer $4

Test kits $30

Refractometer $18

Food: Hikari Mysis, Ocean Nutrition Formula 1, SA hatchery pellets, new life spectrum pellets, Can o Cyclops (frozen now), Brightwell Restore er... $30

Revive coral dip $10.50

net $2

turkey baster $1

bone cutters $12

considering adding Brightwell aquatic media plate instead of or in addition to cheato

Livestock:
Tiger conch (his name is Babar)
URlvt5Z.jpg

2 big vibex snails

Pair of sustainable aquatics sunkist skunk clowns (Clementine and Sherbert aka Bert)

Cycling shot

New light! Good god it's like looking at the face of the sun!
GGSiyH3.jpg

I need to raise the light up as high as possible as space is limited.

Tonight candid slimy algae glass shot!
MStlqPy.jpg

Ick, time to add some algae snails.

I only have a few frags in there right now. A nice orange fanta acan, some orange crush zoas, a frag of yellow scroll coral, and a frag of Green Pocillipora.

I have an order of frags coming later this week.

Pink and blue, rainbow, and purple cream acans. Plan is to space them out on the rock on the right and grow them together. Ultimate goal is to have that whole rock encrusted with them.

A head of red candy cane, a head of yellow tip torch coral, some pink zoas, pink yuma ricordia, and purple yuma ricordia.

I'll put the torch in the lower left, a bit shaded and a spot the clown like to sleep.

The zoas and shrooms will go on the shaded/lower portions of the rock. Mainly orange, blue, pink, and purple, ricordia, mushrooms, and zoas.

On the top surfaces I'd like an array of colorful stylophora and pocillipora. I love the fluffy look!

I'd like a yellow fiji leather, right up on the top right of the arc, directly in front of the powerhead.

I'd also like a fox coral, pink hammer, and a toadstool leather.

I'll add one more fish, a golden sailfin blenny (if I ever find a nice one). Some acropora crabs would be cute.

So that's a start!

Oh, and I use real saltwater, $1 a gallon at the pet store I drive by every day 2 blocks from my work. Top off with RODI.

I cycled for 6 weeks or so before adding CUC and added several doses of bottled bacteria. Dosed with ace hardware janitorial ammonia every few days until it started processing it in 24 hours.

I bought my Sustainable Aquatics clowns and pair of neon gobies from The Coral Reef. They were awesome! I let them know that I was going to try and pair the 4 fish I ordered and asked them to keep that in mind when they selected my fish.

They responded to my email right away.

One of the clowns was a bit larger and one of the gobies was a bit fatter and both have paired up nicely!

Shipping was smooth, things were very well packaged. All fish are eating well and active and happy as of now (2 weeks).

Got up to get a drink in the middle of the night and couldn't resist. This is how the clowns sleep and where I'm going to put the yellow torch if it's healthy. Sometimes they are stacked on on top of the other. So cute!

Welcome to R2R, you are off to a very nice start with your tank. The aquascape is simple but looks great

Thanks!

I bought the rock and sand in a big sealed tub sight unseen. It turned out to have a ton of sand, a little bit of what looks like Fiji Totoka, and 4 more plain rocks. One of which is really big. I put the fancy stuff in the 9.5 gallon nano and the other four in the 24 gallon.

The scape is not what I would do if I was picking out rock. Not a lot of scape options when you have one ginourmous rock and 3 little ones. It's the best I can get with what I have and its growing on me.

2 weeks ago I added some more frags. A couple of ancan lords, one that is pink and blue and one that was supposed to be rainbow but all I can see is orange and blue. So now I have 3 acan lords on the rock I would like to eventually be encrusted with them. I would like to add one more type to that rock.

As you can see I have some lovely (not) variety of pest algaes that I have been fighting off. Slowly winning. The main culprit is my over feeding >.>

I also added two ricordia yuma. Both lovely colors, which I still utterly fail at being able to photograph. One is pale pink with bright pink speckles and a florescent yellow mouth, the other dark purple with pink spots, a bit of hunter green, and a florescent green mouth.

I got what was supposed to be a red candy cane coral which I don't care for the look of.

Oh and my yellow tip torch head

gKkn2Oo.jpg

It usually has a lot more extension than this. I turned the light on to snap the pick and it wasn't happy.

Tonight I picked up a weird mutant orange ricordea, mommy shroom was 5-6 inches across and looked like a bubble tip anemone!

Here's the baby, added about an hour ago. Not yet fluffed up and happy.

Today I got the loot I ordered from Aqua SD. I won a couple items on ebay then added a couple more from the website and it looks like they threw in a surprise frag!

Here's the beautiful but tiny ricordea next the weird mutant one I bout on craigslist. Check out the size difference between the bubbles on them!

This mushroom is kind of meh looking so far but hopefully it will perk up. The lighting in the little tank where it will be living isn't fabulous either.

A pink goniopora with yellow tips (once it comes out to play)

My sweet bonus frag, looks like a blue tipped goniopora?

Another Acan for my garden and this little frag of Montipora I bought on a whim. It's a nice bright sherberty orange.

So er, what do I do with the monti? I was thinking about sticking it to the back wall somewhere. I have no idea what shape it's supposed to end up!

That looks like it might be a Montipora setosa. They're not quite sure what shape to end up either - they're likely to be somewhat massive in form, but with halfhearted plates and smallish, numerous branchlets. Every one is different.

Ugh, my hunt for a golden sailfin blenny that is actually yellow is still fruitless. I've been in contact with a fish guy in Florida and so far none have come in :/

I did find some aquacultured Rainfordi gobies so I will be able to get one for the small tank and not worry about it starving. I'll probably order a group of sexy shrimp with it. Though it may be a month before I can order. Too many plans that might get in the way :/

Well that doesn't help me decide where to stick it!

Great start. The setosa can really go anywhere. They're very tolerant to lower light, acclimate slowly if you put high up on back wall.
