Posting this for my dear old mom. She got these two clowns yesterday and today sent me these pictures. On the black clown, I can definitely see spots that look more like Ich, but on the orange one it doesn't look so clear/they're not as well defined as I normally see with ich. As long as I've been in the hobby I'm glad to say that I haven't done much dealing with diseases.

She says they're acting normal and eating.
Water params:
Salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
pH 8.1
Temp 77.5

I wanted to post here and see what you guys think!

This is a sure sign of brooklynella which starts at facial area and continues on body. Fish will have an unusual swim pattern, loss of appetite, elevated breathing and discoloration as examples..
Bet treatment is a 60 minute bath with ruby Rally pro as formalin based products are near impossible to find. Then treat with ruby rally pro in display tank But preferably treatment tank. As this has potential to spread, all fish are too best treated. If no meds on hand, you can give the fish a 5 minute freshwater dip which offers temporary relief but is Not a cure

Gotcha thanks for the info. It may be tough for her because she's very new to the hobby and she also lives in an extremely rural area. The nearest store with any saltwater supplies is a small Petco about 30 minutes away.

As for the tank, it's a 20 gallon AIO, the clowns are the only things in the tank. No other fish or inverts or anything.

I doubt she'd be able to set up a hospital tank.

For the freshwater dip, I'm assuming she should use RO/DI water?

Good news is she can order and although not recommended, can treat with it right in the tank. To tie fish over a couple of days but is not a treatment.
You can also use general cure treatment but ruby more effective

Awesome. She went to Petco and got one of the "Parasite Remedy" treatments. I already ordered some Ruby Rally to be sent to her house.

Another question, if the clowns don't make it, how long should she wait before adding new fish? Should she treat the tank anyways with Ruby Rally?

She needs to contact the dealer - if she bought these less than 24 hours ago, they sold her sick fish, and they need to be held responsible for that!

She got them from Petco. They have the "No guarantee on marine fish" clause. She went back and told them today and they asked her which tank they came out of, but offered no compensation.

Edit to add:
They actually told her that when their fish get ich they put them in half tank water and half freshwater and that will "cure it" .... So they obviously have no idea what's going on.

not entirely wrong

12ppt for 30 days has a reasonable chance of curing ich(and flukes)

Very good reason not to buy from a store like that! I normally try not to disparage retail stores and manufacturers, but in this case they did it themselves!

Yeah I know. I can SORTA understand why they do it. I'm sure a bunch of people want to go buy a "Nemo" and have no idea what to do and they end up dying, but I think having a blanket clause like that, when the store is clearly at fault, is just not good policy.

In her case it's a bit tough because that is genuinely the only store within 3 hours drive that carries any marine fish at all.

She's too afraid to order online so I guess next time she wants a fish I'll just buy from my dealer and drive it up to her. 7 hours isn't anything too crazy, and we're pretty good friends, if something did go wrong he would definitely do anything to make it right.

The good news is the fish are still doing good. She started treatment with the "parasite remedy", the Ruby Rally will be there tomorrow, and she did a freshwater dip on them and said they seem to be acting much better and eating more afterwards that.

So it looks like a decent chance of them pulling through. I just hate that this is her intro into saltwater aquariums. A trial by fire I guess you could say.

A good option would be for her to buy pre quarantined fish from a well-known online vendor.
