Help with an ID please. Is this ich? Don't see anything on anyone else but if so, want to get started on treatment for them ASAP. Added 2 new fish about 2 weeks ago but did not QT and afraid I'm learning a hard lesson because of it.

Here's what's in the tank:

•Firefish Goby (new)
•Royal Gramma (new)
•Magnificent Foxface
•Blue Hippo Tang (affected, attached photos)
•Yellow Tang
•Darwin Clownfish
•2 Ocellaris Clownfish
•Mandarin Dragonet

Looks like the start of mucus cones likely mixed in with ich and something this fish is susceptible to. Others may not show signs, at least yet.
Treat in separate tank with coppersafe at treatment level 2.25 monitored with Hanna brand copper test kit..

If ich is in the tank removing the hippo to treat in copper then returning him to the tank will just make things worse IME as it's immune system will be weakened from stress of being in QT and copper and the ich will come back worse next round. You need to remove all fish and treat them, let the tank go fallow to eradicate the ich. Or just feed him well, minimize stress and let his immunity to ich build up like all fish in the ocean.

The spots that I can see are too large to be ich. This species is prone to developing mucus plugs. These are a response to some stress issue. Trouble is, ich can sometimes be the stressor that causes these. In other cases, the stressor is done mild issue and they go away on their own.

Thank you, Jay! This is so helpful! Would you suggest QT for only this fish? Treating the whole group and doing fallow period? Is treatment necessary at this stage or just monitoring for now? (I do have corals so just trying to come up with the best plan of action.)

I think in the end, you’ll need to pull and treat all fish and let the tank go fishless for 60 days.
