Don't ever boil rock, ever.
All RTV cured becomes inert. The problem is when they add mildew resistant chemicals. That, you don't want.

Let it dry or wipe off when wet.
Bulkheads don't need RTV.

Don't boil rock=don't listen to others.
Remove your RTV and get the right product.
The bad RTV will not "ruin" fittings or the tank. Just clean it off.

And, don't put RTV on bulkheads. They are not meant to have sealant on them, they may leak if you do.

thanks for clearing it up, my rocks have 0 life on them but washing them would mean i’d have to take down my structure and from setting this up i’ve learnt i can never build it the same after the 1st time so i’m glad i don’t need to do that.

What would boiling the rocks do?

it’s not rtv it’s a brand called “no nonsense” sanitary silicone if that matters at all.
ill make a point about not putting any silicone where it’s not necessary

Sometimes rock has life on them and it will cause (whatever was on them) it to be air borne and inhaled. Not good.

I know you're are clean. It's just good habit.

I have heard reports of boiling and rock blowing apart. I'm not sure of the reports.

Rocks can explode when heated. Not just reef rock. Perfectly ordinary rock can explode.

Also, boiling reef rock is a great way to aerosolize things you do not want to breath.
