I’m new to this and trying to set up a 90 gallon tank. I want putting a flame angel, mandarin fish, royal gramma midget chromis and a lawnmower blenny in it. The filtration system I want to use is a aquaclear 110 hob power filter and 2 aqueon powerheads with 950 gph. I need advice on if this setup would work, what lights to get and if I need a skimmer. Any advice would be really appreciated.

There will just be live rock and fish. What skimmer would you recommend?
I guess I should take that back. I meant if you are going to have a fully stocked reef. If you are going to keep 5 fish then you don't need one.

Awesome. So you already know not to use tap water. Do you know about the nitrogen cycle?

I think I will eventually add some more so is it worth it to get one now? And do you have a light suggestion?
Probably. If you are not going to have corals you don't need a fancy light, a freshwater light will be fine. This is only if you are not going to get corals.

Ha...paragrouper...excellent name! That guide he/she sent is excellent! Read up on that for sure. And when you do add fish....wait on adding the mandarins. They are little hunters and need a good population of copepods to thrive.

ok… I understand better now. I was sort of planning this already bc I was going to do dry rock with some live rock let that cycle for a while then put a lawn mower blenny and maybe a court jester goby before I put others in there would that work well. Thanks for the good advice.

They could work, but my motto is buy better gear the first time. The chances are.... you're going to want to try your hand at corals. Get a light that can give you the ability to keep corals alive so you can just add corals when you're ready. This hobby is addictive.... trust me on that one
