I love plates!

Acros and Euphyllia get so much love. Where's the love for plate corals? I love 'em! Super bright. Puffy. Some are tentacly. And great appetites. Oh, and they resurrect themselves. @VintageReefer I know you've got some to show!

Now for my newest plate's journey:

Bought a beautiful long-ish tentacle plate from a local. It was smaller than expected. About the width of a frag plug stem. And not looking happy during pickup.

This is what it was supposed to look like:

All good, I don't like giving up on a living coral, and the local agreed to keep an eye on it and replace if it didn't make it.

Didn't look like it was going to make it. Lost most of its flesh. Lost its MOUTH! Ribs were fully exposed.

Passed it off as a goner, but a couple weeks later, lo and behold, flesh! Not much else, but looks like the beginnings of a mouth!

Yes, it has a mouth now! I can feed it. And it eats very small pellets! No tentacles yet.

Fast forward to today. Just noticed tentacles for the first time! Keep going little guy!

Any else have good plate photography or stories?

I love plate corals! My neon orange plate was one of my first corals ever, and it was a gorgeous little thing. A very underrated coral, in my opinion!

This isn’t a great picture…but that was my plate coral when I first got it. It’s grown quite a bit. But I don’t have a recent picture.

I have 3 in my tank, one is dying and on the way out but your post gives me hope it can come back. Love plates.

I don’t have any plates ….seems like I’m slacking on the job.

I have had some acans, favias, and even a symphyllia coral come back from complete skeletal tissue recession…..

I think feeding and making sure they are comfortable helps. But also if they die, don't throw them away. The one I just bought came from a dead plate skeleton that popped out babies LONG after it was "dead". That whole basket of plates came from one dead plate skeleton.

Feeding is key. If you can get them to eat you have a huge advantage

Good to know. When I feed them, there's no response to it and my fish/cleaner shrimp eats it off them even though I fed them first. What do you feed them? I've tried mysis and pellets.

i LOVE plates!! one of my favorites. id love to know where you got yours jojo. ive never seen one like that. so beautiful! i also had one come very dead looking. but put it in the tank anyways just to see. very slowly its coming back! im so tickled!!!

I picked my orange plate out from AquaSD when I swung by after taking the kids to SeaWorld. They had sent me a BJD'd Torch, so I just asked them if I could get a plate as a replacement and they let me pick it out when I went there. I will say, it didn't look amazing when I was there in person, but it perked up in my tank and is one of my favorites now!

I haven't had two next to each other yet. My yellow plate is next to zoas and there's no indication that the zoas are being bothered.
