How to add more flow in a 10g lifeguard built in filter

I recently watched the wwc video on flow. Is it possible to remove/plug the lower intake on a 10g lifeguard take to promote more flow in the built in filter and allow surface skimming? Or in other words, can i remove the lower intake and replace it with the plug after i glued it? Or is there another way to plug it?
