At my current rate of consumption (1.2% water change per day) I use up my clean salt water from my mixing station in about 40days. I usually run the cycle three times so ~120days before I pull out the mixing pump, hoses, etc and flush out any precipitates and sterilize everything including container with bleach. Usually some slimes on hoses and little bit of green algae by this point.

How often do others clean out their mixing station/clean salt water?

Do you have some sort of light on your station ? just asking due to your stated algae build up. I have a 55g container but I only use the 30g one at the moment. I keep it dark and I'm a clean freak so after each use I flush it.

Small amount of light occasionally as its in my garage. After ~120days there is only a tiny bit of algae on some surface that must see a bit of light through windows. Not enough that I'm concerned.

Bump. I’m also seeing a biofilm form in my tubes and power cords inside the mixing tank. I use NSW though so I’m not sure if it’s a comparison

I think it all depends on the salt

Reef Crystals is dirty salt…dunno what’s in it other than it’s orange/brown crud
the purple bucket is a lil cleaner
Red Sea salt is better but not a clean as Tropic Marin

I never clean my ro/di container. I use my sump as the saltwater mixing chamber so I usually vacuumed the sump bottom about move a month
