How big does a Majestic angel get if you get it as a juvenile?

I have 56" x 36" x 24" tank with a very open scape and I am planning to get a Majestic angel.

How big can I expect it to grow and how fast?

You should expect it to grow to close to its max size and unfortunately there’s no way of knowing. The bad part for your tank is that it may become overly aggressive or stressed or bullied or a bully to other fish. I wouldn’t put one in less than a 180g. Sorry...:(

I agree with the post above. You are talking about a fish that ultimately needs a tank at least 6 feet long and 2 feet wide. It appears to be a wider tank but that 4.5 foot length will definitely be inadequate for a very active fish that gets around a foot in length.

Thanks. I had the hope it wouldn't grow past 6 or 7 inches and given that the tank volume is 204 gallons I thought it would be enough.

The tank scape is mainly islands with caves with all rock well away from the glass, so it has good swimming space.

The fish are mostly really small.

The larger fish are a marine betta (4 inches), flame angel and tomini tang so I wouldn't expect much bullying past the first few days.

But I guess I will follow your advise and forget about it. But it's so tempting to get a 2" one.

I had ordered a juvenile and I am trying to cancel the order. They told me they could cancel it today if I ordered a gem tang (!) instead. Otherwise I will have to wait until monday to know if I can cancel it. I am hoping the gem tang thing was a joke.

So am I. What site did you order from? As for the majestic, the odds of it not growing past 6-7 inches is pretty much non-existant. I could see it not growing past the 9-10 inch range if you bought it small and being perfectly fine but definitely not half size.

I am in Portugal and the fish are currently at TMC in the UK.

I really want to cancel the order, because right now, with the fish selection I have, I am not being constantly reminded that the tank is a cage.

A fish with 7 or 8 inches will do that for sure. I have a marine betta with 4 inches, but he is such a quiet fish that even if he doubles in size it will be ok.

I had one for twenty years in a 220 gallon tank and its maximum size was 7 inches. Great fish in all respects, and it never bothered LPS's and softies.
