I am considering getting a Biota Majestic. I really love the juvenile coloration, and would love to watch the transformation, but it seems one must get them crazy small to do that, and I am not confident in a dime size fish. Some of you will have to hear me out on the next part, as I know a 75g is not the ideal long term, and I've read some of the threads on why NOT to rehome or move, but again, hear me out.
Current livestock (all " are ish lol), 2.5" Coral Beauty, 3" Lyretail Anthias, 2" Tomini Tang, 1.25" Black Ice clown, good size fire shrimp. The Biota Angel Here is 1". That seems to not be a bad size with my other inhabitants, but that's why I am asking. The clown sort of stays to himself as the little guy, it just constantly swims in a small area in the upper right corner of tank. This has been the case since I got it, so it isn't like aggression forced it into a small area, it's like it just likes that area, and I am planning on a nem long term hopefully for a host. The other 3 routinely hang out together, they swim in and around each other for the most part like no one cares. Occasionally the Anthias will pop his dorsal and act like a tough guy, but the tang just turns sideways like go ahead, and they both then chill and carry on, never seen actual chasing, fighting or much more than the few seconds of the above. Same with the Coral Beauty, never seems aggressive towards the group. I feel like the 1" Majestic would grow out well in this setting, as I would not be planning to add many, if any, more fish, just corals eventually. Everyone eats live brine, spirulina frozen brine, mysis, Emerald Entree, Mermaid's Delight, and Marine One mini pellets (.5mm). I'm going to be adding reef nutrition TDO, so I could easily do the X-small to start, or add in DKI pellets Biota suggests.
I'd use an acclimation box as well, but at 1" what would be most beneficial for the Majestic as far as how long? Would it make sense to get one of the big acclimation boxes and put one or two small pieces of rock in it as cover if the suggestion is more like many weeks than 1 week?
The reason I feel more comfortable using the 75g as a grow out tank and then moving, is that I already have plans for This 150 to replace the 75 in a year. So I'd be moving the rock, all of it, to that, and could potentially transfer my aquascape as is pretty much, and then supplement with additional live rock. My thought there is give the crew all of their tankmates, AND their established homes in the new tank, as I would be selling the 75. In my head that is less stress on all of them, and perhaps a better grow out of the Majestic starting at such a small size.
So if you've made it this far, what is the growth rate I would expect from the 1" Majestic assuming twice a day feedings of the foods above. Does my plan sound reasonable and like the Majestic would be a good fit and happy, both now and when I would move to a larger tank with more tankmates? Thanks.
