Todays parameters (32 g with sump) are:

Temp: 77
Salinity: 1.026
PH: 8.6 (last checked it was 8.2)
Nitrate: 13.6
Phosphate: .07
Calcium: 409
Alk: 8.4
Magnesium: 1640 (last checked was at 1560)

Any ideas why my magnesium is so high? Before the beggining of August my Mag was normal. I have not dosed any magnesium either.

Not sure about the PH increase but I know that could be many things)?

Most likely test error.

Which test kit. Has it expired.

Testing some freshly mixed salt water will determine if the kit is faulty

I switched to the Hanna checker from the Red Sea test kit. It would make sense since it may have been around that time. It is brand new though so not expired. So I’m using the same test kit on my other newer 15 gal tank and the test reads 1510, would you say both are wrong then?

So I just tested with my old test kit from Red Sea and you were right, it came out to 1370. Big difference. I am wondering if it is me doing the test wrong but I am following the directions. I guess I’ll do some research on this Hannah tester. Thanks!

The Hanna Magnesium checker doesn't have a particularly good reputation and often reads very high.

FWIW, if you are doing regular water changes you probably do not need to test magnesium at all.
