Hello , does anyone know why this JB is shriveling up like this ? Normally it’s usually sitting flat and measures about 2 inches across covering the whole plug. Approximately 48 hours ago it started shriveling up like this , all other mushrooms in the tank look fine. Parameters are all excellent and stable for the most part.

I am wondering if it could be having a baby ? Its mouth is not open and not showing any filaments , no change of color either.

Any help is greatly appreciated I would hate to loose this gorgeous shroom

Thanks

It’s not gotten worse and is even more bunched up , smaller. I checked at night and couldn’t see anything under it that could be irritating it , also it’s mouth is not open at all

It’s feet are still attached

Anyone have any ideas ? Could it be planning on moving or making a baby via pedal laceration ? Or just dieing ?

Is it attached to the plug?
Yes fully attached and no legs are lifting (it used to expand over the entire thread) no it’s just shrunk up and looks to be slightly trumpeting , or “cupping”

It’s been in this spot for 3 months with no issues and just started doing this

All other corals and shrooms in tank are fine

Parameters are good

Alk 8.2
Salinity 1.26
Temp 79
Cal / mag pretty much perfect
Phos 0.3-0.4
Nitrate slightly below 1
Probably shroom is getting slightly above 100 par , maybe 120 or so

Nothing has really changed that I can think of besides I very recently turned down the return pumps by 1 notch

Maybe it’s hungry ? Or maybe moving slowly ? Not sure why it would shrink up like this

Could a hermit walk across it? I’m sure it’s fine if it’s attached I wouldn’t worry

Does it have two mouths? Is it trying to split? If not, then my guess is something is picking at it or irritating it.
Thanks , that’s what I thought as well that it’s irritated but plug is completely clean can’t see anything … I will wait it out for now since it’s fully attached

Just wanted to post an Update , mushroom has returned to its former glory , it is now almost covering the whole plug again (I have noticed it’s foot is smaller and more centered on the plug) so it has moved slightly over the past week when it was shriveled up … also there is a new baby on the side of the plug pictured below with red arrow, doesn’t have any color yet but in a few weeks should

It didn't like where it was at. I purposely give mine a little too much light and flow to get them to do this (and move). When they move they will leave little flesh boogers that will turn into new polyps.

This is how I went from 12 jawbreakers to around 200 in a span of two years. I would have a lot more but I typically sell/trade 10 to 20 polyps per month and have done so for the last 6 months or so.
