My 3 year old yellow wrasse disappeared several days ago. I assumed he jumped out of the tank when I had the lids off and was eaten by my dog or dried up on the floor. Today I see him swimming at the bottom of one of the overflows in the tank.

What is the best way to catch him that won't compromise the plumbing inside the overflow? What problems will I encounter if I pull the two pipes out so I can use a net? Will I be able to get the pipes reinserted in the fittings? The tank is an Aqueon 125 gallon with two overflows.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You got it. Disassemble the whole thing and get it out. We had a similar problem. Removed the plumbing, used a colander, and reassembled. If only I didn’t swear at my wife during the process.

You can pull out the drain section turn off flow and send it down into your sump. Just make sure to have a bucket of water outside of tank to flush completely down if it’s a stubborn fish and waits for the last little bit of water to drain.
