My wife just noticed our Power Blue tang sitting in the back corner of the tank not really moving but still breathing. I was able to pick him up with my hand, he did not even swim away from me. We have him acclimating to go in to Quarantine. He is what seems to be gasping for air, he is not looking good. He was fine and just ate yesterday. Any suggestions on treatment?

Well since no suggestions, we are going to try a freshwater dip. We are doing 85% RODI water and 15% tank water. My wife went to get a pH buffer to bring the pH up in the RODI water to match the pH in the tank so we do not shock the fish. We will be doing a max 10 minute dip.

The PBT can't even swim, he is just rolling around in the QT tank with the current but is breathing and moving fins sometimes.

We did a 7 minute Fresh water dip: 85% RODI / 15% Tank Water. He does not seem to be doing any better. See the video.

We should be able to embed videos in to the threads don't you think?

Sorry to hear about your fish. They are one of my favorites and I really hope that yours pulls through. Best of luck.

It looks poisned, like mabe niped something that has toxins. The only things I can think of that might help, couple ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide will up the oxygen content of the water, or ozone generator and a air stone for a short period of time. but I doubt anything will help. sorry to see a fish in trouble anytime. good luck

JR,

This morning he was still breathing good just upside down on the bottom. If there is no chance for him to make it is there a quick way to stop the suffering?

Not to sound insensitive but I believe this is why the 'tang police' strongly suggest against keeping PBT in anything less than a 300. They just can't survive long term in anything smaller...

Sorry about your loss though, that's never fun :(

Its bugging me not knowing whats wrong or what caused this. I am at work right now I guess I will do what I don't want to do when I get home, freeze him.. :( Do you just wrap him up in a bag and put him in the freezer? I have never done this!

It could have been brought on by stress from to small of a living environment.

Ive read plenty of times from people w/ first hand experience that they may do well in something smaller than a 300 but in time, premature death is inevitable...
