Does anybody recognize this species, or even have a guess of genus? Under natural lighting it's greyish brown, and translucent. Under the blue reef lighting, it glows red.

I received this macroalgae as a freebie from my local fish store. Unfortunately it seems to be melting a few days later, it's losing its red color. I want to ID it so I can try my best to save it. Thank you.

What fish store did you get it from in Portland? World of Wet Pets?

I've been calling it Acanthophora sp.
Seems to be super variable in terms of color based on lighting.

Strong white lights makes it a dark grey while blue reef light gives it a strong red coloration.

Delicate and highly palatable. Fast grower for me.

Wow thank you so much for the quick and informative reply.

I got it from Cuttle Fish & Corals. That's the only reef store I've been to in Portland, so far. Is World of Wet Pets your go-to?
