Hi everyone!! My name is Cas, I'm a lifetime fish and ocean enthusiast with 2 fish tattoos (mola mola/ocean sunfish and yellowfin tuna, named Ferris and Cameron respectively. Sloane is going to be a sea nettle) and am soon to have my own space to HOPEFULLY!! create my very first tank.
I owned several bettas in my youth, and as you may imagine, I did not know a lot about fish keeping. I never had a tank with a filter (so sorry!!!) but I changed their water weekly, fed and played with them regularly, and kept the biggest tank I could at all times. I'll see if I can dig up my old camera to upload pictures (from 2010-14, it would have been).
My ultimate dream is to have an in-wall, minimum 180 gallon saltwater reef and tank with a bunch of tangs and wrasse and idols :,). My mom lives in Hawaii and I love to visit her and snorkel every morning, and am taking many notes of corals and livestock to incorporate in the future.
For my first tank though, I should probably start with freshwater, since as mentioned previously I've not yet experienced the upkeep of a *proper* tank, and I fear cycling saltwater and salinity and alkalinity may be overwhelming.
Some facts outside of fish/the ocean:
I love music! Been very into Childish Gambino's and Willow Smith's new albums, Peter Gabriel, Remi Wolf, AURORA, and Elbow lately! I play guitar, bass, and sing fairly regularly, and LOVE to talk about music.
I also love art! I went to art school and majored in comics, and currently do some illustration on the side and am ALWAYS, always reading and supplying myself with a steady stream of inspiration.
I thought narwhals were fictional creatures, like mermaids or unicorns, until I was in college. In my defense, my first and only time seeing a narwhal was in the movie Elf, where a narwhal pops his head out of the North Pole's waters to bid farewell to the titular protagonist. I thought, North Pole, not reality. Got it. And somehow had never questioned this.
Anyway.
Delighted to meet you all and peruse these threads and so
