Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone!

If you go up, go right to a 4 foot long tank if you can afford it. Also, rimless with starphire glass looks amazing. You'll be able to house more of the fish you want with more length, and the corals will look great as well.

I actually picked up a 75 gallon Aqueon from Petco. Unfortunately the glass is tempered. And more unfortunately I had already purchased 1800gph overflow from Modular Marine. I do like how clean rimless tanks look but I just wouldn't feel comfortable with anything over 100 gallons. I found that Seapora makes a 75 gallon non tempered tank but if given the choice I'd rather have their 120 gallon if that was non tempered. The problem I am seeing with internet searching is that there doesn't seem to be any pet stores within a 100 miles of me that can get me what I want.

In the meantime I am browsing FB's market place to see if anything piques my interest. The idea is this will tide me over for a bit while I entertain the idea of having Custom Aquariums build me what I want. (along with the holes to fit my overflow) lol

Definitely going to go bigger. Just not in a rush to get there.

It has been a while since I was really into this hobby. My first saltwater tank was a 29 gallon fish only setup. This was pretty basic with an under gravel filter and standard florescent lighting. I didn't make it a year before jumping into the deep end with a 150 gallon tank loaded up with live rock. In 2001 our home burned down and this pretty much sucked the wind out my sails. Shortly after this event I ended up purchasing a mated pair of tomato clownfish from a small pet store in town. I was always fascinated with the idea of trying my hand at breeding and raising them.

These two (Boris and Doris) lived with me and my family for 20 years in a 20 gallon bare bottom tank and live rock. I had had Doris for 21 years before she passed on. Boris followed a year later. I never timed it to be more exact but I think they spawned on a monthly basis in that tank.

I was planning on moving them into a nicer tank along with an anemone. I had bought a 29 gallon biocube for them but procrastination won out and they never got to enjoy the new tank. In May of last year, not knowing what to do with the new tank, I decided to start again. I ended up here a few times when researching a dark red encrusting algae that was taking up residence on the shaded portions of my rocks. I'm fairly certain it is Peyssonnelia or closely related.

Here is the tank as it is today.

I'm already wanting to upgrade to a larger tank. I want more fish but they'll need more space than the current tank can provide.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and learning from your experiences. I started off by reading lots of books. Now I'm reading lots of web pages. :)

AH hello!!! So you must be nearby!
Thank the gods another Wisconsinite :loudly-crying-face:

Hello there!

I think I have counted 3 so far. (counting myself) :thinking-face:

What part of Wisco are you from? I’m SW

Yeah there aren’t many. There’s a few FB groups for Madison as far as saltwater goes. Because that’s probably one of the only areas in Wisconsin with a decent selection :face-with-spiral-eyes: idk if there’s anything good in Milwaukee.

But at that point I’d rather go to MN or Chicago.

Amherst is about center of the state. Madison is probably the best option for me. I used to dive down there monthly for some office time at a company I worked for.

Thanks everyone! Just sheltering in place while law enforcement searches for someone considered armed and dangerous. Oh and the block is without power. Running on batteries at the moment. :flushed-face:

Welcome to R2R!

Have you looked in UPS battery backups? Ever since I experienced my first overnight power outage, I've purchased one for each tank (from Amazon) and found them very useful!

Happy Reefing!

I have a bunch of 1280wh lithium test batteries from work that I plan on building an UPS with. I monitored the usage with our app and based on that I could have ran everything for a little over 3 days.

Power is back now so calling it a night. :slightly-smiling-face:

I guess the guy is barricaded in a house. I'm wondering if they'll cut the power again tonight.

So unreal. lol

that’s awesome- i say this because i look back and would have done the same exact thing. Someone here posted a 114g rimless tank and stand that was brand new that was being sold for a quarter of its value (I think it was being sold on brs for 4 grand). Point is- keep a lookout as much ad you can and you will find amazing deals.
