SoCal reefer here, and I was just seeking fellow reefers’ input about what you all would do with a Wild Yellow tang that is large and healthy, and he’s getting too big for my tank. And with the current state of affairs would you sell it, or what would you all do with one of you couldn’t keep one any longer?
I’ve asked some LFS and they’d offer me a couple hundred bucks in store credit at most.
I am just wondering what you all would do with one, if you had it (knowing there is some value there for it)?
Thanks for the input

I'm close by and would buy it from you, but it sounds like the LFS will give you more than I could justify. Captive bred juveniles are priced around $200 OTD. I know wild vs. captive is a big selling point for some, but I haven't seen anything but anecdotal evidence that there's really a difference.

If I was really attached to it, I'd consider a bigger tank. If not, I'd gift it to a friend or sell it to a private party rather than the LFS as it would be appreciated for it's looks and/or utility rather than just dollar signs.

I would get a bigger tank! But if that is not an option I would donate it to the Long Beach aquarium. that way you can go visit it for many years to come. I rescued a blue tang from petco with fin rot and HLLE. It was tiny so I threw it in my 40g after I got it back on track. It was a stupid thing to do. I figured he will get too big to fit into the caves and cracks of my aquascape. That has not happened yet. But when it does I already made arrangements to have her got to LBA. There is no way I can pull my aquascape without the risk of cracking my tank.

Couple hundred sounds nice, wild ones at my previous residence were on Facebook for around $250

You could post it up on Facebook marketplace and see if you can get more, cash.

Remember, EVERYTHING in life is negotiable. I'd bet that your LFS would go higher. The mark up on product you'd use for store credit will give the LFS a big profit. I bet they'd go higher. Thirty years ago, we'd mark up product by 1.7 times cost. And that was the retail price we'd cothar (plus tax). Not sure what it is now, but it couldn't be far from that.
