Exciting. I got my gulf rock over a year ago and my wife still goes in every night after light out to check out the creepy crawlies.
Tons of life on this rock and still finding new life at the same time.
Hope you made sure you dbl checked placement of rock. Corals, clams, oysters can blend in and easily be buried, crushed etc and cause huge ammonia spikes/mass death events.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to dbl check after its settled in before lights out.
I crushed a huge clam thinking it was part of rock. It was literally half of the rock lol

Once I get mine ordered, I was thinking about setting up the 10 gallon and a big tote filled with water from the tank so I could watch it for mantis and any other bad guys before it goes into the main tank.

More likely to find gorilla and non reef safe crabs. I wish I had found a mantis in 200lbs I got

If you find a mantis let me know! I actually think they're pretty cool :)

Yeah I thought the clam was a rock until it opened up so I'll do a triple check tonight. Basically if I see anything specifically oblong in shape I'll place it so it won't be buried lol, couldn't really tell what was rock and what wasn't clam and coral wise. Is there any way for me to ID corals?

Yes I believe someone posted a link to check gulf species if not you can find it with quick Google search.
Pay extra special close attention to any soft spots as well. I had a 7" rfa shrunk up the size of quarter down inside a whole in rock. Some of the corals will take few days to really acclimate enough to be seen just be careful.
A good rule of thumb would be to look for bare spots and place them bottom down like they where plucked from ocean.
Def on right track with lighting etc.
Just dbl check placement and should be good.

Also if you start seeing any kind of gray slimy areas. Pull rock out and remove the death. You will have some no getting around it.

Yeah when I was unwrapping them I made sure to specifically place them on the side that looked the most bare. On one of them the bare side was growing a sponge though so I just angled it down on what I thought were just two nubby rocks. Turns out they were both clams so I had to reposition it again lol.
