Hey all. Just got home from picking up my new to me Redsea 300XL

This is a big jump and a lot to learn now and hoping to get some help again from you all.

I’ve been running a biocube 32 now for 8month and was ready to upgrade so been searching and found a tank that fit the space we had available.
A redsea300xl and I’m pumped.

It’s a little rough gonna need some tlc but I got a great deal on it I hope..

Either way this is my first sump and was looking for advice on how to run it. It’s the original 15g sump that redsea sold with this model.

The 3rd chamber?? Had a crack out of the upper corner. The original owner said it was not an issue for him and shouldn’t be for me. Looking for confirmation on that one

So if I’m calling these correct? If not please correct me.
Chamber 1- return pump
Chamber 2- the refugium
Chamber 3- for the filter sock and another that looks like it would be for tumbling a form or media(carbon, phosguard so on?)
Chamber 4- for the protein skimmer?
Chamber 5-????

I’m guessing here from the way the biocube runs

Also looking for any tips on water height in the display in the sump chambers so on..

Currently have the tank leak testing full and running with tap water and white vinegar

Thanks all!

She held water all nice running nicely! I’ll get it dry today and get ready to move it.

I did find a YouTube channel from redsea explaining the water level height in the overflow by fine tuning the diaphram which should be a big help. While researching it seems like upgrading that piece of plumbing to a gate valve may be a better route to have tighter control

Ha I am almost in the same situation looking for the same information. I upgraded from a BioCube 32 and got a RedSea Reefer 750XXL. By the way, the fastest way to clean that up without messing up the seals is to use a big bag of Citiric Acid () and fill the tank and sump up with fresh water and dump the acid in and leave for 2 days. It's harmless but melts all the deposits off without a razor blade. Just buy a cheap scrub brush and that will take it off like butter.

As for the sump, I am also looking to figure out where things go. I have what amounts to 5 chambers, I know the return pump goes I the back right chamber, filter socks are in the second chamber and skimmer in the third chamber. I don't know where refugium cheato or rock rubble go though. If I got any kind of reactor, do those go in the sump or in the dry cabinet? Thank you for the help!

Oh and if you want some more advice, I found that the CoralVue Hydros Pro Pack is the bomb for handling the controls of the system.

Nice man! Major upgrade! I’ve got it runnings now and ended up super lucky and picked up a structure of mature live rock.

As for the sump mine had 5 chambers and the way you described it is the way I feel as well. Return chamber than I have a small section followed by the filter socks and media basket. Currently I have carbon in the media cup and just using the filter sock. Them next chamber is my skimmer which I have not started to run yet so that will be a learning curve! After that is the section I believed I would be putting some rock rubble and so on to house the bacteria and than the return chamber that I need to add a ato to now that I can see the amount of evaporation on a open top tank! Holy moly that biocube didn’t lose a smidge with the hood on lol.
