Bear is at the vet. I came out of the fish room where I was busy this morning and petted him and he was really sick.
So we went to the vet.
Splenic tumor that has ruptured (maybe, hard to tell on ultrasound) with blood in the abdomen. They are going to remove his spleen. Surgery after the animal on the table now is finished and they clean up.
That's where we are now anyway. I told them to fix what they can but no heroic measures when asked. I am not sure what that even means with a 110 pound dog.

I may start drinking heavily. Or something.
Sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to you. Hope he pulls through ok.

Bear is with us and we have to take him to the emergency clinic for the night. The spleen and bleeders are gone.
Some kind of cancer.
And now the strange part. If this is causing his neurological stuff there may be a small chance. They can sometimes cure cancer or stave it off. What they thought he has is untreatable.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through that with Bear. I hope you can have some more quality time with him.

We had to make a similar decision almost a year and a half ago with our beautiful husky. Trip to emergency vet clinic at midnight. Ruptured gallbladder. She may or may not survive surgery. What do you want to do? We said the same thing...no heroic measures. She made it through the surgery, but things were touch and go for a day or so.

She recovered to the point of being able to go for walks again. We had a wonderful few months with her after that. There were too many other issues going on and in early summer, she went downhill fast. The quality was gone.

All of this to say we were NOT ready to let her go in January, we made a decision, and we had some great time with her. It was shorter than we wanted, but I'll never forget those few months.

We need to cherish every single day with our loved ones....whether they be four legged or the human variety. Hang tough, Bear. We're rooting for you! :)

Good morning everyone! I successfully added another solenoid (essentially an electronically controlled valve) to my water mixing station. Because the hose that feeds the RODI system is 3/8" and the Hydros solenoid only comes in 1/4" I had to take a DIY approach with a generic solenoid and do the wiring to connect it to the Hydros. As an FYI, the 1/4" solenoid is after the RODI filter and before the 65g RODI water tank. The new solenoid now works great and ended up being really quick and simple to install. I'm glad that I didn't put it off for any more than a year.

Good Morning. I was looking through my old Log book that I started in 1971. I won't publish the entire book because frankly I would probably be embarrassed of some of the stupid things I did.

At the beginning of my log book I started writing a book about the different fish and how to keep them. Remember at that time, in 1971 no one kept salt fish so whenever I got a fish, and kept it alive for a while, I wrote about it and drew pictures of the fish. :)

There were also no computers or cell phones so no cell phone camera's. I had to print the book. Of course this was in the very beginning of the hobby when hardly anyone knew what these fish were and no one saw them in person unless you dove.

It looks like my last entry to my Log book was 1996. It is mostly what I had in the tank, how long they lived and what, if anything I did to feed them and keep them alive.

I see something interesting I logged in 1977. I bought a yellow tang on Roosevelt Ave. in Queens NY for $7.00 and two percula clowns for $3.00 ea

Good morning. New cooktop is in! Installation went well with only one little issue. Didn’t realize the controls for the downdraft exhaust fan are on a separate piece so installed it below the counter and above the cupboard door. Normally it is mounted beside the cooktop and requires drilling a few holes in countertop, but installer said “drilling” in granite is more risky than “cutting” Drilling can cause the granite to crack. And he’s not responsible if it cracks. Thought it would be a pain to to use if mount it inside the cabinet. So not ideal but it will work. Wonder how much food I will burn before figuring out how to cook on an induction cooktop. :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: Well I won’t be finding out today as it is my birthday and I’m not cooking!

So early this morning I took a walk on the beach to see the sunrise.
Sunrise.jpg

As I walked down the 176 steps I notice something laying on the sand. :astonished-face:

Beach stairs.jpg
(this is only the first 100 steps, the rest are on top of the hill. Then there is about 200 more steps up a wooden ramp on the dunes)

It looks like a seal or sea lion. I am involved in this rescue sea turtle, whale, seal thing so I had to go and investigate.

As I walked I was hoping it wasn't a whale because I am not as young as I used to be and would have trouble carrying a whale up those stairs.

I got closer and closer until I saw it was a sea lion.
I creeped up so as not to scare the creature that I assumed accidentally heard Rap music from one of the sail boats and was trying to kill himself.

I got real close, and saw. That my sea lion was a rock. But it sure looks like a seal don't it? :)

The sea lion was petrified by the rap music :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

@MrsBugmaster,

I need details on the cooktop!! One of our sons decided to drop a large glass bowl on mine last year and broke the cooktop....nice. It's been so hard to find a downdraft, so we haven't replaced it. Cooking has been very limited, which suits me just fine!

Have a great birthday! :)

Good morning!
Saw this cool display at the aquarium. It fills from the base and overflows from the top to make the water run down the sides. @MrsBugmaster it sounds like I missed your birthday - Happy Birthday! Have a great day everyone!
