Gonipora care?

Was always told gonipora are difficult? That they won’t last long and do not thrive?


Feedback from any keepers of this? Are they difficult? Lighting requirements

I've found them not very difficult as long as your tank is stable. Personally I don't think acro is difficult. Pepole go about dosing stuff and all this precise monitoring while I just do a waterchange and mine are doing fine. Sane as with the goiopora.

You do haft to feed them though. Reef roids.

That's true for most LPS. Agree with everything said above and will add that most strains that have been in the hobby for awhile (like ora red gonis) are hardy and have adapted to home aquaria. I've tried a few wild ones and they don't make it.

It depends on the Goni

Some are difficult, some are easy - just like children.

They appreciate a mature and stable tank.
I've found that they are happier if Manganese (not Magnesium) is dosed regularly to NSW levels.

I've never fed anything to the coral in my tank, as long as the fish are well fed and pollutants like Nitrate and Phosphate are controlled, they'll be happy.

Yup mangenese dosing has been the key to my success. I dont feed mine but I do a general broadcast feed most days.

And as others have said, a stable mature tank.

Mine are between 120 and 150 par on the sand bed.

Edit: I have 6 gonis and one alveopora

My oldest is 4 years old, have another that is 3 years old, and fewer newer ones less than 2 years old. I don't feed or dose manganese or anything else, just good light and good flow and stable water conditions, I do weekly water changes.

Another key to success with goniopora I’ve found is buying aquacultured pieces rather than wild ones which die much easier IME.

Anyone have tips for how best to grow these out? I was thinking of mounting to a 2x2 tile assuming they encrust then build skeleton.
