In the market for a large custom acrylic display tank in 120x36x30 or 96x36x30.

For those of you who have ordered one in the last year, which company do you recommend I go with?? I saw advanced acrylics & Tenecor really have mixed reviews so I’m trying to do it right the first time without headaches

Either of them will get the job done correctly.. it’s all about how much you wanna spend.. I’d look at price and lead time and make my decision based off of that.. both places have been around for years and do great work.

But then I see posts like the one below and feel unsure when a company won’t stand behind what they build. At least Tenecor seems like they have lifetime warranty and won’t ignore the issue if they produce a bad tank…

You might be able to find an acrylic tank builder closer to you as they are one of those cottage type industries that springs up. If you do, you can save a bundle on shipping. I haven't bought from them before, but this builder is well thought of near me.

I have a Tenecor 120g acrylic tank that has been up for 15yrs. I recently tore it down and sanded + polished to remove 15yrs of scratches. Happy with the tank design and build quality.

For one that is rimless… I have been doing acrylic for a living for 30 years myself and seen both of these companies tanks in person and they’re legit! That tank there could be from a number of issues like! Stand not belong level for one putting extra pressure on the seams and joints.. somebody not handling it correctly during a move etc.. it’s hard to say but those are very few..

Fish tanks direct in Fla, built my 200 and 500g (6’x5’) acrylic tanks, also two 8’
450g tanks for friends of mine… all happy with their work.
I also still have a 120g tank built by Tenecor in the early 90’s that is still in use and looks great.

I got a reply from Advanced acrylics & was told they can only do 96 or 118 length so just waiting to hear back from Tenecor to decide.

for a 120 length is bowing a concern? AA recommended 1” thick & 3/4” base. I’m pretty sure Tenecor builds them less thick

I’m local to Tenecor so I guess that works out even better. Haven’t seen any real issue aside from people complaining about their customer service not having a number so they are my current go to as long as they okay the 120x36x30 size

That’s because of the machining required to prep the edges for gluing it up.. standard sheet size is 48x96, a 120” sheet is over size and more money.. they will always be a tad smaller than the sheet size because of prep… a 10ft tank shouldn’t bow if built with the correct materials and a top euro with a couple cross braces.. it’s not much bigger than a 8ft tank… if you want the most bang for your buck a 8ft tank only makes sense, since you don’t have a bunch scrap and waste material. Either way you’re spending a decent amount of money so if the extra 2ft is worth several hundred dollars to you then by all means go with the 10ft..

@Tenecor Aquariums
I’m a local in the market for a 120x36x30 display tank. Would ultimately love for most of the setup to be from you guys including tank, stand, sump.

Could you please quote me on what I’d be looking at for each thing? Also if you don’t mind along with pricing difference for a 3/4 & 1” thickness on the tank. Looking forward to hearing from you when you can and wont complain like others when they don’t get rushed responses lol!

Lifetime warranty is only as useful as the longevity of the company. Highly overrated IMO. Ask customers of AE how useful their lifetime warranty is ….. not saying Tenacor don’t make good tanks, probably they do, just sayin. FWIW I bought my now departed 450 from fishtanksdirect and was pretty happy with it.

If you go custom, have the overflow cut into the back panel. Far better than even the best aftermarket options. Ordered my 120 that way. So much better. Quieter and a lot less opportunity for leaks.

I second fish tanks direct. I had a 360 8x3x2 built by them. Builder Scott was easy to work with and very competitive pricing.

Do you mean in the corners or in the back like the screenshot I have attached?

Certainly not in the inside corners ..... yuk, that's so 2010. This is what I mean: slots cut into the actual back panel and the scupper box welded to the rear as part of tank construction.

@Tenecor Aquariums

I received my quote today but unfortunately was told you guys can’t make a stand big enough for a 120.

So I guess 96x36x30 it is lol. I’ve seen you give great prices on here so what would you quote me for a 3/4” thick 96lx36wx30h black back tank. I’d want the whole bundle from you guys since I’m an Arizona local so I would want a stand and acrylic sump as well. A member above told me I should get the overflow placed in the back are you able to configure that as well too?
