General discussion and questions about my tank because I am noob at this

Rock identification isn’t my specialty, but “beachrock” (see the link below) may work, corals that are totally white and dead, sea shells, etc. are all calcium carbonate and should help (these are also known to grow algae pretty well). A better option would likely be to just buy some dry rock from an aquarium store, but these other options should all theoretically help.

The smaller pattern may be a bryozoan or similar, simple life form.

In theory it would, yes.

Haha, I could if I knew someone who fits the bill, but in this case I don’t. Most people just by live or dry aragonite rock and sand, a few use freshwater rocks like scoria or limestone, but no one I know has collected their own rock for their tank.

Most people buy it from stores (BRS, KP Aquatics, Tampa Bay Saltwater Live Rocks, etc.).

Yeah, MarcoRocks is one of the big name dry rock aragonite brands.

That seems to be a product similar to prime - honestly, if you can get your tank operating stably, you shouldn't need those products at all.

if and when I get a skimmer I will just ammonia test the waste out of curiosity the ammonia levels will probably be crazy high

I've never tried it, so I'll defer to those who have:

Just wondering how long you can store nsw ? I did a search before asking this but alot of the threads were years old So thought id ask for a updated answer as ive noticed we learn new ways every day
