Hey guys

I set up a Fluval evo yesterday and drew lines to note evaporation in the tank. The Fluval evo comes with three chambers and then the main display tank.

Chamber 1 - I have put the heater here as I didn’t like it so close to the rubber return pump hose (yes I over think the heat of it)

Chamber 2 - stock filtration although I have ordered a middle media basket to change this and will use filter floss, carbon and the ceramic rings

Chamber 3 has the return flow

The main display volume hasn’t dropped but the volume in chamber 3 has dropped by around half a cm and I was wondering what water to top off with.

Usually in my tank, if the water level drops in the main display, I will top off with plan RO but in this case the main display has remained the same water level but the outflow section has dropped slightly. So do I use salt water or plain RO to top up the chambers?

Hope this makes some form of sense!

use regular RO water to top it off, those tanks will lower in the third chamber
if you’re using the provided sponge which imo sucks, it could be clogged causing less flow
when i had those tanks i always had the heater in the second chamber and media basket in the first, with my ATO sensor i had that in last chamber along with the filler so the water movement would help disperse and mix the RO quicker

Awesome Thankyou! I didn’t wanna use regular and mess up the salinity if I was meant to be using salted

I will look at getting filter media moved into the first and move the heater to the second chamber! Do you think running floss on top then carbon then bio media on the bottom will be okay for filtration? I have live rock in the main tank too!

Always use RO to top off no matter which chamber it is. Mechanical filtration is really up to you but what you stated there will work just fine. Also never put the heater in return pump chamber. Not because it might damage any soft hoses but if the water goes down and you forget to top off then the heater will overheat and destroy itself.

Did you upgrade your return pump at all? This one is really loud and I’ve tried to clean it etc! Was going to purchase the sicce 0.5 but lots of people have said they aren’t much better for noise
