Hi yall so I set up my first salt water fish tank! I started with a 20 gal and I will be putting a pair of clown fish and an anemone in it. I just want to make sure I got everything I need and am doing everything correctly. So I have the tank, the stand, a new fluval filter, a aquatop heater, aquatop wave maker, thermometer, and currently have a 12.4 watt aqua master LED light but I’ve been reading that it’s not good enough for the anemone. Anyways I put live Fiji sand, live reef rocks, pre-made salt water from our local fish store, and I’ve been using seachem stability. This is day 2 of the tank cycling. Is there anything else I should add ? What LED lights do yall recommend for the type of tank I will have? There is a little bit of foam/bubbles is that good or bad ? When and how will I know to add fishy’s? All help is welcomed and appreciated

With my 13.5 EVO, the recommendations from my LFS help out a lot. They recommend live sand and live rock, and I had a short cycle and did wait 2 months before adding fish and except for Clown that jump out and Damsels killing my Cleaner Shrimp. Tank is fine. I found that Turbo sails help the tank chemistry.

This is exciting, i know the feeling but slow down, its going to take 3 maybe 4 weeks to cycle the tank. Anemone probably not gonna survive until the tank is at least 6 months old and matured.

If you think your going slow, go slower....
I inherited an anemone from a guy who gave me his setup that needed to move. Green carpet nem. The tank was up and running for 6 weeks and im at the 2 month mark since setting it up. No signs of any stress whatsoever.

Maybe carpets are more hardy? If so then it could be exclusive to the type of nem. But, good advice to wait 6 months before adding.

Carpets are great. Until they eat your fish. :D

Thank you so much !
Hi Hillary, first off welcome to the first timers club!! It’s exciting to embark on a new adventure. I have a small 16 gal BioCube. It is 6 months old. Oh the ugly stages are coming. I wish I knew them all before I started. Don’t let people here worry you. But they do have great advice for us. Your local fish store (LFS) can help a lot too. Mine let me know yesterday that my tank is ready for a nem! I’m super excited about that but thankfully money has me waiting to add a nem in. Just have patience and enjoy and get a good routine down for your tank.

This is a bit late however based on your mentioned equiptment choices ...i think your going to find the kessel..Ai prime and radion lights although all great choices are perhaps out of your intended price range ,,,fluval makes a great nano bluetooth light that will meet your expectations regarding a mixed 20gal mixed reef tank.
