Hey guys, so on Friday night I got a new flame angel and was going to put him in my 14 gallon brag tank which had my cleaner Gobi and my filefish in it so I had a new 90 gallon system that I decided I would pull the filefish out and put into the 90 gallon system before I added the flame angel so I added him to 90 gallon system it seemed like he kinda got stuck in the net but he got out and the first day seemed normal. He was swimming fine and he ate the next morning a little bit however that previous night he was staying by the overflow hole , and that’s basically where he stayed for the next day. He did not eat at all and then I noticed probably Sunday. He looked like he was unable to swim and breathing heavily. I was monitoring the. Annomia pretty well in the tank and never detected any Monday. He looked really bad and stayed in the front corner breathing heavy and looked unable to swim. My dad told me I needed to take him out and add him back to the 14 gallon tank, which I kind of disagreed about, but I went ahead and did it in the tank, he basically just went to the bottom with his mouth kind of down and never ate again and has just been constantly breathing heavily come to find out that flame angel had it so I set up a 20 gallon quarantine and the flame angel and Gobi as well as the fish got added since the filefish was put back with the flame angel on Monday I figured since he was breathing heavy and everything have passed away when I added him to the 14 gallon tank, however that did not happen and I thought for sure once added to the copper treatment, it would pass away but this morning he is still alive and still just breathing very heavy and as if he is unable to swim, just wondering if there is anything I can do for him to help him or if there is any ethical way to help this fish pass away as it definitely seems like he is just suffering right now also looking for an explanation as to what could’ve happened. It seems like it’s some kind of nervous injury or something like that. There was hardly anything in the new 90 gallon system because it is bare bottom with just a few rocks and a frag rack however the flow was quite strong in it and compared to the 14 gallon. It would be extremely strong so I’m not sure if he gotsucked into the wave maker or thrown against the glass or something

He’s still alive I feel horrible at this point and just want to take it out it’s misery it’s literally been breathing heavy for the past 2 to 3 days and now it’s in copper and can’t or won’t really swim. It’s basically acting how it is when it gets to the corner of that tank.

IMHO - copper is correct - and I would give it time to work. I don't think the fish is suffering. However - I agree with you that it may be that no matter what you do, it may not make it. One comment that might help - I would consider decreasing your flow (since fighting the flow means more energy expenditure for the fish) - if you do that - an airstone is mandatory. (in fact its a good idea either way)

I’ve got an air stone running in the qt tank as well as no flow other than what’s coming from hob

No I have not he was in a brand new system and I was monitoring the ammonia well then I moved him to the 14 gallon for a day and then to qt qt just got set up 2 days ago and fish added yesterday so I don’t imagine anything will be in it but I’m heading home now so I’ll be doing all my testing and I’ll see

PS - It really is an important balance between flow and oxygen - and the fish being tossed around the tank. I don't know what you have to potentially mitigate that - but I would try. Even if you somehow diverted your HOB exit water somehow so the flow is not so high. I have to say this is the first time I've said decrease flow - but the fish is being tossed around - it might help if you could minimize that - while maximizing the oxygen in the water (i.e. airstone)

Okay been checking no annomia believe I was getting false readings due to the copper I have since put an alert badge in there. My flame and Gobi are eating and doing fine however the file fish is still just hovering around and eating breathing still pretty fast and still alive obviously, just not eating any more suggestions on anything I’m leaning more towards some type of spinal injury myself as he acts like he cannot swim on his own if this is the case, what can be done or if someone can just give some suggestions in general, maybe try and narrow what is wrong with him

Well my airstome came undone last night and I woke up to a dead file fish. The angel and goby are fine though. Poor guy glad he’s out of suffering now though
